Nudity And Sex In American Movies

Nudity ands sex in movies can be controversial because some people are uptight about seeing it shown. The United States has a different view on nudity compared to Europe. On some European channels television commercials themselves have nudity, try pulling that off on American television. In many cultures, the nudity and sex factor in movies is governed by a tiered system of censorship. These systems are aimed at limiting children's access to content that is deemed harmful by the public, the government, the movie industry itself including the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). This is a good thing because it properly limits racy content to adults.

Nudity and sex in American films are looked at by movie critics and viewers with a strong eye. Was the nudity or sex shown artistically to impact the story or was it completely gratuitous nudity and sex that added nothing to the movie? That is often the divide. A few movies that have been tagged as the later are "Showgirls" directed by Paul Verhoeven. The movie received an NC-17 rating because of the nudity and simulated sex scenes. It was a very controversial movie when it came out. Rape, lesbianism, and interracial relationships were some of the subjects covered in the movie. In a nutshell it's about an attractive female drifter that climbs up from a stripper to a showgirl in Las Vegas. Whatever the movie was or was not I watched it an knew what to expect. It would have been strange to see a movie about a Las Vegas stripper that did not have nudity and sex. It would have had no realism in my opinion.

"Swordfish" directed by Dominic Sena and starring Hollywood stars John Travolta and Halle Berry is another movie that is tagged for gratuitous nudity. In brief the movie is about a bad guy who hires a computer hacker to help him electronically steal billions of dollars. The one scene that some people complained about was Halle Berry going topless for apparently no reason. Or as critics put it the scene was so out of context and did nothing to move the story or develop her character. The urban legend is she was paid an extra 2 million dollars for the topless scene. Regardless, I bet that scene helped sell a lot of movie tickets and DVD's. While some say making movies is done for the art, the bottom line is always the money. Good call by the producers to add that scene.

Nudity And Sex In American Movies

"Hitman" directed by Xavier Gens has been viewed as offensive by some viewers because of the nudity and sex in the movie. The plot summary from IMDB.COM is this, A gun-for-hire known only as Agent 47 is ensnared in a political conspiracy, which finds him pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military as he treks across Eastern Europe. hired by a group known as "The Agency" to kill targets for cash. The main character Agent 47 finds himself in the company of Nika who is nude in a hotel room and shown straddling Agent 47 nude. I'm guessing this movie inspired by a video game was made as a total guy movie. I felt the nudity fit the plot because it was the art of seduction being played out by a woman who lived a dangerous life. She survived using her looks and cunning.

"Consignment" directed by Sid Kali is a killer urban action movie. It is gritty and realistic keeping to the beat of the rougher side of life dealing drugs. Based on true events, "Consignment" is about Tommy Jones, a reluctant East Coast drug dealer on the run with his wife, Yolanda, after a rival kingpin's plan to have him ripped-off and murdered goes wrong. Double-crosses, a series of brutal murders, and an old secret from his wife's past foils Tommy's plans for a new start at life. This direct to video movie has taken some heat for a few scenes in it. First there is a very hot striptease scene where a curvy Latina seduces two drug dealers going topless down to a g-string. I have been in Las Vegas strip clubs and bachelor parties where that is the norm. Nothing offensive to me. I thought it fit the story because the stripper was a plant for a rival drug dealer learning what she could about his enemies. I thought Director Sid Kali showed the nudity in a tasteful and seductive light. The other is a rape scene where a female drug dealer is pulled from a shower and forced to give up the whereabouts of her former crime partner and lover. I myself do not know anyone that showers in their clothes except those two guys in the movie "Weird Science". I thought the scene was powerful and added impact to the story because of the way it was shown. The focus was never the nudity but the pain on the face of the female drug dealer. Bravo to that actress! Bravo Sid Kali!

Other art house movies or movies that show nudity and sex are sometimes loved because the nudity and sex is deemed artistic. "Monster's Ball" directed by Marc Foster landed star Halle Berry an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Plot summary from IMDB.COM Set in the Southern United States, 'Monster's Ball' is a tale of a racist white man, Hank (played by Billy Bob Thornton), who falls in love with a black woman named Leticia (Halle Berry). Ironically Hank is a prison guard working on Death Row who executed Leticia's husband (Sean Combs). Hank and Leticia's interracial affair leads to confusion and new ideas for the two unlikely lovers. It had one of the most intense graphic love scenes I've seen in a movie. Some came out against it claiming it portrays black women as ferocious and lewd, with an appetite for sexual encounters, portrayed by the animalistic and raw quality of the sex scene and its racial context. Others say the scene shows two people's desperate need for affection and comfort in the face of human tragedy. Whatever the case Halle Berry won an Oscar. She is an amazing actress.

"The Brown Bunny" directed by Vincent Gallo, who also stars in it with Chole Sevingy is a fiery independent film that takes a chance pushing the creative envelope. Plot summary pulled from IMDB.COM Professional motorcycle racer Bud Clay heads from New Hampshire to California to race again. Along the way he meets various needy women who provide him with the cure to his own loneliness, but only a certain woman from his past will truly satisfy him. What sets this movie apart is the highly controversial scene of actual oral sex between Gallo and co-star Chloe Sevigny in a shabby motel room. What made this scene so gripping was the sex scene was shown in such a lonely and painful way. Director Vincent Gallo captured the desperate and shallow feelings of the characters. That scene was included in the movie for shock appeal, it was there to show human pain during what most people think is a pleasurable experience. Bravo for taking the chance on making a radical movie. This director is a rock star! Bravo Vincent Gallo!

Overall I think nudity and sex are part of life. To censor it out of movies is not the answer. I say let movie makers put out their work, including nudity and sex, and let the viewers decide if they want to watch it or not. There are a ton of movies out there with no nudity or sex. Leave the option and the choice to the masses.

Top Ten Bar Movies

Considering that a lot of us spend a large amount of time in bars, it is amazing how few movies feature bars as a central element of the story. There are classic bar scenes (Star Wars Cantina for example or the saloon in High Noon) but few movies feature a bar as a character unto itself. Bars are usually plot devices thrown in as shorthand. Depressed or lonely? Then the seedy run-down bar on the bad side of town reflects the character's inner angst. Happy? The trendy martini bar with its neon and bright colors is front and center. Mysterious, jaded or edgy? Then the characters are sitting up at the hotel bar drinking scotch.

For all the evidence out there and spots for solid research, few movies actually capture the atmosphere of a real bar. Bartenders rarely respond to "hey barkeep," and "gimme whiskey" is usually met with a blank stare. Capturing the essence, smells, sounds and feel of a real drinking hole is apparently hard. Here are ten movies set in a bar. Not necessarily realistic representations, but interesting nonetheless.

10. Coyote Ugly. (2000) A ridiculous bar movie that follows a young girl trying to make it big in New York as a songwriter but ends up working at an all girl bar named Coyote Ugly. This film featured lots of dancing on bars and scantily clad women tossing bottles around. The bar was modeled after an infamous Greenwich Village watering hole and spawned a whole raft of copy-cat bars across America.

Top Ten Bar Movies

9. Road House. (1989) Either the finest bouncer genre movie of all time or one of the worst pieces of drivel ever committed to film. But you can't resist anything with Patrick Swayze, who hung up the dancing shoes to play a tai chi practicing bouncer. Swayze plays our pec-flexing hero who is given the impossible task or cooling down the violence at the Double Deuce, a rowdy honky tonk bar. He must also learn the secret ways of the bouncer guru and then confront the most evil man in Jasper, Wyoming -- Ben Gazarra.

8. Cocktail. (1988) The trend of "flair bartending" reached its nadir or apex depending on your point of view with this fromage from 1988. A youngish Tom Cruise is the hot shot young bartender who is shown the ropes by the older wiser Brian Brown. They become partners then fall out over a woman and become rivals. Rivals at throwing bottles in the air and shaking girl drinks. Imagine John Wayne ordering a drink from these guys.

7. Robin and the Seven Hoods. (1964) Ocean's Eleven is the most famous rat pack movie and probably the worst. Much better is this stylish retelling of the Robin Hood legend. This movie mostly took place in prohibition era Chicago speakeasies, where the hard drinking, crooning and partying band of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Bing Crosby take on the evil sheriff and Guy Gisborne (Peter Falk). The band sign, swap zingers and spend most of their time downing anything they can brew up.

6. Swingers. (1996) Technically this movie does not take place in one bar, but its grand tour of Los Angeles and Las Vegas drinking holes is money baby. This movie launched the career of Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn and made swing bars and tiki-lamped cocktail lounges hip again.

5. 54. (1998) Studio 54 was the most famous nightclub in late 1970s New York. It was the quintessential disco and was the party place of the famous and wannabe famous. Mike Myers steals the show as the gay club owner Steve Rubell, while Ryan Phillipe, Salma Hayek and Neve Campbell play the beautiful people who made the nightclub home. Perfectly captures the disco era and the exuberance of the 70s nightclub.

5. BarFly. (1987) On one level depressing, on another a great expression of the joy of life. Mickey Rourke plays Henry Chinaski, a poet and alcoholic (loosely based on the real poet Charles Bukowski). He spends his life in LA bars drinking every night. One day he meets and falls for Wanda (played by Faye Dunaway). She's an alcoholic too but she sees the true Charles. She helps him get his poems published and for a short time he becomes famous. But in the end they are both happier as anonymous barflies.

3. Trees Lounge. (1996) Indie star Steve Buscemi directed this small picture imagining what would have happened to him had he stayed in his small hometown on Long Island and not moved to Manhattan to pursue acting. His film centres around, and perfectly captures, a neighborhood bar full of colorful eccentrics who can't seem to move on. Also starring Anthony LePaglia, Samuel L. Jackson and Chloe Sevingny, Buscemi plays Tommy Basilio a drunk who wanders through his life desperate for some sort of meaning beyond the bar that is his only home.

2. Lost in Translation. (2003) Sofia Coppola's gem of a movie mostly takes place in a hotel bar in Tokyo. Disillusioned, weary and bored actor Bill Murray meets neglected newlywed Scarlett Johansson and the two create an unlikely bond as they try to discover or rediscover themselves while in a foreign and confusing land. They end up at a Japanese nightclub which is a great counterpoint to the austere bar. While they don't form a traditional romantic attachment they find something that awakens each other.

1. Casablanca. (1942) Perhaps the perfect movie. Bogart and Bergman shine is this classic romance drama. Originally named "Everybody Comes to Rick's," Casablanca regularly tops best of lists. It's World War II and Rick Blaine, exiled American and former freedom fighter, runs the most popular bar in Casablanca. It's filled with thieves, spies, Nazis, partisans, refugees and piano players. The Nazis and their puppet Captain Renault are after underground leader Victor Laszlo who is supposed to be somewhere in Casablanca. Lazslo secretly arrives at Ricks, only not alone. With him is Ilsa, Rick's one time love and the breaker of his heart. "Of all the bars in all the world she walks into mine." The rest is cinematic magic.

A Movie Review - War Eagle Arkansas

Movie reviews this week looks at the biographical drama War Eagle Arkansas.

This is a fairly recent biographical tale made for the big screen, that tells the story of two boys living in a rural community, War Eagle, Arkansas. The title might elude to it being a war story but it is far from it.

It is a story of a charming disabled boy known affectionately as "Wheels" played brilliantly by Dan McCabe (The Cake Eaters), and his best friend Enoch who has a speech impediment (played impressively well by Luke Grimes [Ryan in Brothers and Sisters]). Enoch lives with his grandfather better known as "Pop", played by the stalwart Brian Dennehy (Gladiator).

A Movie Review - War Eagle Arkansas

Pop is trying to get Enoch a baseball scholarship into one of the best sporting universities around their area, and it soon becomes obvious to the audience that Pop seems to have regretted giving up his dreams of being a major baseball star and staying in War Eagle, and he doesn't want that for Enoch, but you are not quite sure if Enoch dreams are to leave War Eagle.

The friendship of the two boys is so close, that at the first few scenes you automatically assume that they are siblings, spending as much time in each other's company as possible, and Enoch even gets to say the last word to Wheels, after his mother Jessie played by the ever brilliant Mary Kay Place (Adalene Grant in Big Love) gets him ready for bed.

Pop is in charge of the local baseball team, and in his attempt to get Enoch a baseball scholarship, pushes him as best as he can, as he sees it there is nothing in this town, to keep him there. Apart from baseball, there is an allusion to watching wrestling on TV, and one can't miss the obvious focus on Jerry "The King" Lawler, and can see the symbolism he represents as someone who made it out of war Eagle, Arkansas. There is the usual romantic interest as Enoch has the hots for a lovely girl, Abby played by the surprisingly young looking Misti Traya, and there are a few embarrassing moments for Enoch as he summons the courage to ask Abby out, but of course his speech impediment gets in the way, unless Wheels is by his side to speak for him, and in one painful scene, where Enoch tries to do it alone without Wheels, he leaves in a rush, as the words cannot come out and a few of Abby's friends can't help but giggle at his attempt. When he does eventually ask her out, the audience will feel the loneliness and pain Wheels feels, on a life he aspires for but is not realistic of seeing come true.

War Eagle Arkansas, is an endearing movie of two boys, and their friendship as they decide what path their lives are going to take, and they seek advice from the sole preacher at this close knit community, Jack played by James McDaniel (Lt. Arthur Fancy in NYPD Blue).

ACFN is an ATM (automated cash machine) franchise business opportunity for many entrepreneurs looking for a low cost business to own and operate. Here is a simple review of the business and franchise with ACFN.

ACFN the ATM franchise business opportunity for any entrepreneur looking to own and operate their own business and comes at a cost of just under ,000. The system is designed for any bricks and mortar business including hotel brands as well as movie theaters, hospitals, night clubs, sports bars, breweries and other city properties. The benefits of owning this type of business of course do not have to be explained as most of us use this service on almost a weekly basis.

There is no experience required to start this opportunity as the company does offer a full and comprehensive training program. This will include benefit from extensive site research, professional experienced advice on proper placement within the establishment to help maximize transactions, central processing, industry specific training, monitoring services, an ongoing revenue stream from each franchisee location.

ACFN ATM Franchise Review - (Franchise Opportunity and Business Review)

The down fall of this franchise business however will be in the maintenance and service that will be required in which you the owner will be driving to and from one site to the other with the general activities of this upkeep. Although this business is listed as an ENTREPRENEUR TOP 500 home based business, home based is not exactly what it is.

The ACFN ATM franchise opportunity is a solid business that although takes a large investment, could pan out to be the right investment for some. In review, the ATM franchise business is a good business that given time and the right location might be a lucrative way to find success in this economy. For those of us who have found success as entrepreneurs know that success is only based on solid training, solid opportunity, product or service and the willingness to apply massive action.

Mean Girls (Movie Review)

One of the funniest films of 2004, Mean Girls ranks among some of the best high school comedies of all time. Right up there with Clueless, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and American Pie, Mean Girls has some of the most hilarious comic scenes of the decade. Written by Saturday Night Live mainstay Tina Fey (who also stars as a teacher in the film), Mean Girls is supposed to chronicle some of the author's personal experiences in the social world of academics. Irrespective of its similarities to real life, Mean Girls is a light-hearted comedy with likeable characters, and it's just plain funny...

Lindsay Lohan plays Cady Heron, a previously home-schooled, sixteen year old daughter of two world-traveling anthropologists. When her parents decide to settle down, Cady attends public school for the first time in her life. While there, she befriends social outcasts Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan) and Damian (Daniel Franzese) who tell her all about the inner-workings of their high school. Cady learns about The Plastics, a group of three girls who compose the social elites of the school. The previous beneficiary of Plastics leader Regina's wrath, Janis longs for the day when she can exact revenge on her former best friend from eighth grade.

When The Plastics - Regina George (Rachel McAdams), Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert), and Karen Smith (Amanda Seyfried) - take a liking to Cady and give her an exclusive invitation to eat lunch with them, Janis sees her opportunity for revenge. She concocts a plan to send Cady into the world of The Plastics as an "undercover agent," and together, Cady, Janis, and Damian work to dig up dirt on the girls. However, the line between pretend and reality starts to blur for Cady, souring her relationship with Janis. And Cady's affection for Regina's former boyfriend Aaron (Jonathan Bennett) threatens to create a permanent chasm between the two girls... Throw in a showdown between two groups of math-letes, and you've got yourself quite a movie!

Mean Girls (Movie Review)

As the lead character, Cady, Lindsay Lohan portrays a very likeable person, an intelligent, sweet girl who experiences her first foray into the world of public school. The audience's ability to identify with and like Cady makes it easier to enjoy a film where she alienates two groups of high school clicks and virtually everyone else around her. Meanwhile, Rachel McAdams (rising Hollywood star and lead from The Notebook) is brilliant in her performance as the socially aggressive, backstabbing Regina George.

Mean Girls is a classic Darwinian high school comedy, similar to the hit TV show Freaks And Geeks, except with a little less edge. If you enjoyed the high school comedy films of the 1980's, like Can't Buy Me Love, then you'll thoroughly enjoy Mean Girls. With a well-written screenplay and supporting appearances by Saturday Night Live regulars Tina Fey and Tim Meadows, Mean Girls is a hilarious comedy and a definite must-see film...

Young Girls Movies Gallery

Young Girls Movies  can be either movies for girls or about girls. These two categories are caused by the thing that the age of young girls can be really different. As a rule all the girls in the range of 6 to 15 years are called young girls. Some movies are popular with young girls who are 7, and others are watched by girls who are 15 years old. But young girls movies are always kind, hope-giving and can be a bit romantic. There are a lion's share of young girls in art niche.

Matilda is a great movie loved both by parents and kids. The film is about a girl who likes reading, who dreams about going to school, and has magic power. But she has a little crazy parents who know nothing else but money, selling second hand cars and making even more money. They think that the girl must be substituted for their real daughter, because Matilda is too bright to be their child. She can count several figure numbers in mind, she can read fast and one day she discovers that she can perform tricks. So she begins to use this talent to break parents' TV set when they don't allow her to read, to play jokes on her cruel head mistress, and to protect her dear Ms. Honey.  The end of the film is a happy one, because Matilda's parents leave a home town and Ms. Honey adopts the girl. No matter how old you may be, you will love the film, you will laugh and worry together with the characters of this incredibly superb young girls movie.
